Tweet Beat: 20 August Round-up

It’s impossible to see everything that happens at the conference each day. Thankfully, we can turn to the conference hashtag #IAU2018 to get insights from other delegates on the best of the rest.

The Opening Ceremony on Monday afternoon set the scene for the conference:

While it’s still not clear who will get a share of the $500,000 award for the 2018 Gruber Cosmology Prize, @astrobellatrix was pleased to hear the full ESA Planck team acknowledged during the Opening Ceremony, not just the 43 men listed in the original press release:

Elsewhere around the GA, delegates were learning about all sorts of things, and keen to share on the Twitterverse:

Meanwhile, @brettmor created a great thread to share updates on what we know so far about star S2 orbiting radio source Sagittarius A* in the center of our Milky Way — complete with GIFs, which is always appreciated.

Over in the Exhibition, it seems if you want your booth to get some love on Twitter, you need something fun and quirky:

Or a product that highlights important issues:

And, finally, the Sun sets on the first day of the GA.

(Okay, fine, the photo is from the night before IAU opened, but it was published yesterday, so it still counts!)

What have you learned at the GA? Seen something cool? Post it with the hashtag #IAU2018 and you might see it highlighted in tomorrow’s edition of the eNewspaper.
